Fat Tax: Good or Bad?

October 25, 2009

As we as a nation become fatter and fatter, the government contemplates enforcing a fat tax on junk foods, such as soda. We have literally hit rock bottom; we are being taxed for being fat. I believe that this tax is pointless; Americans should not be punished for having a choice in what they eat. America doesn't need another tax, it just needs to start to exercise more and eat right; then every once in awhile have some junk food. We as a people should have control over what we eat, when we eat it. If we start taxing what we eat, what's next? Is the government going to tax where we go to the bathroom or how we wake up in the morning? No, because we have complete control over those things, just like eating. So I say no to the fat tax and everything it stands for. We should not be punished for what we eat, just a push to get us away from depending on junk foods.

Obama: Shakey on the Polls

October 21, 2009

Apparently, President Barack Obama's has been losing popularity. For the first time ever, polls show that less than half of the American people agree with the President's decisions on controversial topics, while a majority of 51% say that they disagree with the President. While he doesn't have the majority of the American peoples' support on important topics, he has there popularity. The President's approval rating in a recent poll shows that it is in the health mid-fifties range, and 66% of the people say that Barack Obama has the qualities that a President should have. Now, I personally agree with everything President Obama has done. I believe that polls are just empty numbers, numbers that mean nothing. There is no physical way of pleasing everyone when you are the President, so we shouldn't stress these numbers. The people made there choice for there President and if they don't like what he has done, too bad. He is doing the best that he can for the nation the way that he sees fit. So keep on going President Barack Obama, for everyone or no one.

John Kerry warns Obama

October 18, 2009

Recently, Senator John Kerry had some words of advise for President Obama about raising troop levels in Afghanistan. He cautioned the president to not go through with his plans to raise levels while the country's government is in a state of chaos due to the nation's elections. He says it would be irresponsible of Obama do so in the country's current state. Now, I believe that Senator Kerry's response has some truth to it, but he also is being too passive. We should definitely take precautions when sending in more troops to a chaotic country, we don't what any of our men dying for no cause. On the other hand, if we don't keep our position as a powerful aid to the country, the citizens will lose support in our troops and our troops may be the ones to pay. This is a very tough topic to take sides on, but I would feel more comfortable staying out of harms way. I believe until the country's government is under control, we should be extremely cautious about sending in anymore troops.

Fake Swine Flu Pills

October 15, 2009

Because of the recent swine flu scare, people have been all about keeping well and away from the H1N1 virus. While many people are afraid of the virus, other try to exploit it by selling fake pills over the internet for large amounts of money. The actual pill is called Tamiflu. As people become more frightened of swine flu, they turn to the internet for answers. When these fake drug ads pop-ups, these people jump on these "deals" and get their fix of "Tamiflu". Currently, the FDA is tracking down all of these fake-drug dealers and making people aware of the fake drugs. Now in all honesty, I believe what they are doing is wrong but if people are dumb enough to by the stuff, so be it. People should be a little frightened of the H1N1 virus, but not scared enough to buy whatever product that pop-up first. That's just ignorant and people should be able to think right before they act on those fears. For the people selling, they shouldn't be exploiting people of their paranoia. It just make people trust the internet even less and people being to even distrust the drug itself. On this topic, I believe no one is right and that people need to use their brains before they make decisions.

Obama Works for Gay Rights

October 12, 2009

Recently, President Barack Obama has been seriously advocating gay and lesbian rights. He has even declared that he is going to sign a bill in which the rights of gays and lesbians will be preserved and discrimination against them will be outlawed. In my personally opinion, President Barack Obama has finally done something absolutely right! Who says that we have the right to pass down judgment to people who are gay, by telling them that they can love or be with each other? No one should be segregated by their sexuality. Obama is doing the right thing by signing this bill the right thing, for all gay and straight people. This is truly what Obama meant when he promised change to us, and hopefully he continues to provide change for this struggling country. He has done something extraordinary for this country and for humans rights everywhere in the world.

Obama Wins the Nobel Peace Prize

October 9, 2009

Today is a special day. Today President Barack Obama has won the Noble Peace Prize. The reason Obama has won this honor is for his outstanding efforts in promoting peace between world nations and efforts to saving the environment as well. Okay, to tell you the truth, I don't think Obama deserves this award. I know that he has done great things in his "soon to be" first year as the United States President, but I think the Noble Peace Prize committee jumped the gun a little. I think Obama would have deserved it in like 2 or 3 years when he had done more with his presidency, but its too soon to say that Obama deserves the Noble Peace Prize. When his work is said and done, then he would have deserved this honor.

Allowing Guns on Amtrak

October 4, 2009

Recently, Congress passed a bill allowing Amtrak passengers to bring guns on the Amtrak in their checked luggage. This would allow people to carry guns with them when they are moving, going on a hunting trip, or just want to carry a gun around where they go. And if Amtrak railways doesn't comply within 6 months, they will have their government funding pulled. Honesty, I really like this new bill. I think every citizen has a right to carry a gun with them. It provides protection and it allow the United States citizens their right to bare arms. Of course there are going to be more safety issues but think of it this way, is someone gonna pull a gun out on someone else if everyone around that person has a gun as well? Either way, I like that Congress is standing up for the rights of the American people.

Obama Trys For Olympics in Chicago

October 4, 2009

A few days ago, President Barack Obama, First Lady Michelle Obama, and Oprah Winfrey traveled to Denmark to try to lobby the city of Chicago for the 2016 Olympic games. They did this in a hope to bring the Olympics games to America over Tokyo, Japan; Madrid, Spain; and Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. Unfortunately, Rio de Janeiro was chosen over Chicago, Toyko, and Madrid. Now, I'm all in favor for bringing the Olympics to the United States, but at a time when we don't have other major priorities to attend to. I know that the moral in America is down and bringing the Olympics to the United States would go up, but don't you think the moral of Americans are gonna go down when they find out that the Olympics aren't going to be in the US? On top of all this, we still are in a deep recession, unemployment is going up, banks and homes are closing, we are in a war, and the list goes on and on. We have far more things that we could be spending our time on other than the Olympics, and we must first bring ourselves to a stable condition before we can even think of doing something like the Olympics. Mr. President, please help us now, the Olympics can wait.
